Fresh out of college, I opened a gift shop with the help of my mom that tanked faster than you can say “bad idea.” But it was a line of invitations offered in the shop that lit a creative spark I didn’t even know I had. After the shop closed I continued to sell invitations out of the corner of my mother’s bookstore. When albums couldn't deliver, I began dabbling in custom design using Microsoft Word (cringe) and broke at least a half dozen printers before hitting pause.

With a home to fix up and a passport to fill— I needed cash. I decided to give invitations another shot, but this time around I splurged on a $700 printer and the Adobe Creative Suite— Posted Fete was born!
After cracking the mystery of vector graphics, I was unstoppable. Using paper scraps on hand, I crafted my first unique booklet-style invitation—so good, it would later be mimicked by other designers and big-box brands. Over the next few years, I poured my days—and plenty of late nights—honing my design skills, one YouTube video at a time, to craft hundreds of custom invitations.

When my son was born, time became my most valuable commodity. Switching to part-time hours I stepped away from custom and turned my focus to re-selling designs in my Etsy shop. One decision changed everything: posting a boarding pass invitation I’d originally created for a custom client. That design stood out from the crowd and became my “ticket” to a sustainable, life-first business. I sold the same design 50 times in the first year—earning more while working less. The takeaway? Crafting something unique that rises above the sea of sameness is the secret to working smarter, not harder.

I kicked off 2020 with my highest-grossing Q1 ever. And just like that, my business screeched to a halt, and I became a homeschooling mama overnight. Thankfully, my lean, life-first approach meant I could easily pivot. That year when business was dead, I invested time and money into growth. I took a conversion copywriting course, re-branded and dropped $7G on the Glowforge Pro. Soon, I was selling Covid Christmas ornaments on the fly—one hitting bestseller status on Etsy! Between PPP loans, NJ Small Business Grants, and the unexpected holiday hustle I survived and was ready to go better than ever when things opened back up.
